Who are we?

We are Openbox, a Black- and Asian-led design studio with a mission for better urban living. We are part of a multi-disciplinary team partnering with the Balboa Park Cultural Partnership to design the park’s outdoor spaces within its Cultural District to be more accessible, inviting, and reflective of San Diego County’s vibrant trinational community.

What are we doing?

In this project, we want to meet with BIPOC community members, specifically we want to speak with: 1) families who live over 30 minutes away from Balboa Park, 2) Spanish-speaking households, and 3) Indigenous people, to learn about their experiences in the park.

What does designing with communities look like?

We compensate participants with $150 for their time. We will host 90 minute conversations with community participants from August 15-24. These conversations will guide our team’s work and we always share back what we learn.

We look forward to hearing from you!
