After the war with Spain, the Mexican's forced the Spanish out of power and the Missions closed. With it, went the hard labor, the massive deaths due to small pox and other diseases, but the Kumeyaay were left with scars that would last for generations. Mexicans - occupying old town San Diego - were given inland land grants, but were unable to use them, due to Indian attacks. |
