Crash Sparks Brushfire

SAN DIEGO — A single-vehicle accident early Sunday knocked a power pole onto a roadway near the Barona Valley Ranch Resort and Casino, and touched off a small brush fire, a California Highway Patrol dispatcher said.

No one was hurt in the crash around 4:35 a.m. along the southern end of Wildcat Canyon Road, near Willow Road, the dispatcher said.

The fire was extinguished after about a quarter-acre of brush was burned, but the power pole and downed wires resulted in Wildcat Canyon Road being closed for several hours.

By mid-morning, authorities were allowing alternating one-way traffic to get through the road, which provides access to the Barona Valley Ranch Resort and Casino.

The vehicle involved in the crash ended up in a creek bed 30 feet off the roadway and an investigation was underway into whether the alcohol played a role, according to the CHP.
