POINT LOMA - The 45th annual Cabrillo Festival, which honors the first European explorer to visit what is now San Diego, will take place this weekend in Point Loma.

Festivities will include a concert starting at 4 p.m. Saturday near the Cabrillo statue, with performers such as the Navy Band Southwest Brass Ensemble and American Indians singing Kumeyaay bird songs.
The Sunday open house at the naval base will feature a 1 p.m. re-enactment of Cabrillo’s landing. There also will be dancing, storytelling and music from the Mexican, Portuguese, Spanish and American Indian cultures.
