Minimum Qualifications: Terminal degree (doctorate or MFA) in any discipline with a field relevant to the culture, development, history, or other aspect of California Native American communities. Demonstrated experience in collaborative and applied research among tribal communities. Candidates for Associate or Full Professor rank must demonstrate ability (a) to play a leadership role in curriculum development and delivery, including collaboration with departments, programs, and tribal communities to develop and deliver curriculum relevant to Native Studies and Native communities, and (b) to take an active part in the development of the potential California Indian Culture and Sovereignty Center (CICSC). Candidates for Assistant Professor rank must demonstrate ability to participate in course and CICSC development with the aid of existing faculty. All candidates must demonstrate ability (a) to deliver effective course work at all levels of the Native Studies program and in lower-division general education; (b) to engage in culturally appropriate research; and (c) to engage in university service.
Desired/Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated experience with culturally appropriate applied research among tribal communities in the San Diego, Riverside, San Bernardino, Imperial, Orange, Los Angeles, and/or Santa Barbara counties and/or the Border Region. A proven track record of success in writing and managing grants is desirable.
