The federal government is directing more than $5 million to help American Indian communities repair damage from Southern California’s wildfires.
Funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will be available to repair homes, pay for temporary housing, restore communities centers on tribal lands and other costs.
Wildfires have destroyed 100 homes on four Southern California reservations, including Rincon, La Jolla, and Barona.
Other reservations have been evacuated. They include Pauma, Pala, Sycuan, Jamul and Viejas.
